Digital Voyage Records

Captain Logbook

A working digital logbook built to reduce repetitive paperwork without removing the captain's judgment from the record.

Start a journey from your phone, tablet or computer. The logbook records the authenticated captain and vessel, server-captured departure and arrival times, GPS positions, pre-departure readiness checks and location-aware environmental station snapshots.

While underway, add notes, condition reports, incidents and operational changes. Underway records are timestamped and can be geotagged automatically.

Live Journey Start, resume and complete an active voyage without losing the record.
GPS Capture Departure, arrival and underway-event positions are recorded when available.
Environmental Context Nearby Environment Canada station observations are attached as contextual data.
Captain Observations Sea state, ride quality, route notes and other first-hand observations remain captain-entered.
Permanent Archive Finalized voyages receive daily log IDs, integrity information and a private archive.
Printable Records Completed logs can be printed or saved as compact PDF voyage records.

Development Status: The Captain Logbook is being developed with professional small-vessel recordkeeping in mind. It is not presently represented as Transport Canada approved, certified, or as a substitute for any records an operator is legally required to maintain.

The logbook separates information that can be captured automatically from information that only the captain can properly observe and judge.

Automatic Capture Departure time, GPS and nearby environmental source are recorded when available.

Record Underway Add conditions, notes, incidents or operational changes from the helm.

End & Complete Arrival data is captured and the captain completes the observations requiring human judgment.

Finalize & Archive The voyage becomes a permanent printable record with amendment history and audit information.

Manual entry remains available for older paper records or captains who prefer to enter a completed voyage directly.

Nick is the owner and operator of Pirates of Perdition, an independent water taxi service based on Lasqueti Island.

Life on Lasqueti put the Strait of Georgia at the centre of everyday travel. Over time, regular crossings developed into a serious interest in marine weather, sea state, boat handling and the changing character of the route.

Pirates of Perdition grew from that experience: a working water taxi, an expanding Marine Intelligence Center, a record of lessons learned on the water and now a growing maritime community.
